PRR Juniata River Railroad Bridge, 1960 |
| Description: |
Agnes. Here is an original photo that I took in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, on 25 July 1960. In addition to a westbound Pennsylvania Railroad freight train passing the HOLLY Block telephone, what's notable here is the typical depth of the water flowing under the Juniata River Railroad Bridge. It's hardly a trickle! Partially visible at the left is the US Route 22 highway bridge. Hollidaysburg's historic "Chimney Rocks" are just discernable at the right. |

PRR 8663, AS-18AM, 1960 |
| Description: |
Good Day. Here is an original photo that I took in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, 25 July 1960. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #8663, #8657, and #8675. All are AS-18AM road switchers built by the American Locomotive Company and rated at 1,800 horsepower each. #8663 and #8675 were constructed in 1958, but #8657 was built in 1957. From here, they'll pass WYE Tower and climb the Allegheny Mountains via the Muleshoe Curve to Gallitzin, where they'll be uncoupled and returned to East Altoona for further assignments. This photo was taken at the Juniata River Railroad Bridge, near Bedford Street and the Passenger Station. #12 of 12. |

Altoona. Here is the first of two successive photos by an unidentified photographer that were taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, in 1963. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #8657 and #8669. Both are AS-18AM's built by the American Locomotive Company and rated at 1,800 horsepower each. #8657 was built in December of 1957, while #8669 was built in March of 1958. In this context, they're serving as tail end pushers on a manifest freight train that's rounding the Curve on its way up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin, where they'll be uncoupled and returned to East Altoona for further assignment. Wave to the Train Crews! Brad Mann Collection. |

PRR 8657, AS-18AM, 1966 |
| Description: |
Winter Night. Here is an original telephoto view that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in February of 1966. Shown here (R to L) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #8657 and another unit whose road number is not recorded. #8657 is an AS-18AM built by the American Locomotive Company in December of 1957 and rated at 1,800 horsepower. Heading West, they are about to pass under the 17th Street Bridge with a mixed-cargo freight train. To the left are two other freights awaiting orders to proceed up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. The light tower visible at the top left is located just beyond the Passenger Station and the 12th Street Footbridge. (The purple blurs are the result of strobe light reflected from nearby snow flurries.) |
