Caption On Reverse: "A passenger train, with E-7 5849 up front, heads west after crossing the Rockville Bridge into Marysville, Pa. A freight is ready to cross the stone arch bridge and continue east. Enola, location of the large Pennsy yard, is a short distance to the right of the photo. October 20, 1957." Photo by Fred R. Kern. Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5849 is an EP-20 built by GM-EMD in August of 1947 and rated at 2,000 horsepower. The eastbound freight train is headed by PRR engine #9662, an EF-15A built by GM-EMD in February of 1950 and rated at 1,500 horsepower.

Description:  17th Street. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 10 July 1965. Shown here are the Pennsylvania Railroad's Locomotive Ready Tracks below the 17th Street Bridge. Many makes and models are represented. Of the 40 or so locomotives visible here, the following are identifiable by road number. Starting from the right are PRR engines #7118, #7124, #9662, #6302, and #6308. #7118 and #7124 are EFS-17M's built by GM-EMD in June of 1957 and rated at 1,750 horsepower each. #9662 is an EF-15A built by GM-EMD in February of 1950 and rated at 1,500 horsepower. #6302 and #6308 are AF-27's built by the American Locomotive Company in March of 1965 and rated at 2,700 horsepower each. Note the red PRR Refueling Truck next to #6302.
