PRR 6027, EF-25A, 1965
Title:  PRR 6027, EF-25A, 1965
Description:  Spruce Creek. Here is the seventh of eight successive photos that I took in Spruce Creek, Pennsylvania, on 10 July 1965. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #6027, #2412, and another unit whose road number is not recorded. #6027 is an EF-25A built by GM-EMD in April of 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. #2412 is an AF-24 built by the American Locomotive Company in October of 1962 and rated at 2,400 horsepower. In this context, they're pulling a mixed-cargo freight train out of Enola to Altoona and points West. A small portion of State Route 45 is visible at the upper right.

PRR 6027, EF-25A, 1966
Title:  PRR 6027, EF-25A, 1966
Description:  Winter Day. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Altoona, Pennsylvania, during February of 1966. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #6027, #6506, and #6026. All were built in 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower each. #6027 and #6026 are EF-25A's built by EMD, but #6506 is a GF-25A built by General Electric. They are about to pass under the 4th Street Bridge and into the Eastbound Receiving Yard with a fully-loaded coal train. Visible in the distance is the 7th Street Bridge. The venerable black water tower ~ last vestige of the Age of Steam in this part of town ~ stands guard on the right.
