PRR 2429, AF-25, 1965 |
Description: |
Spruce Creek. Here is the second of eight successive photos that I took in Spruce Creek, Pennsylvania, on 10 July 1965. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #2429, #2544, and another unit whose road number is not recorded. #2429 is an AF-25 built by the American Locomotive Company in March of 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. #2544 is a GF-25 built by General Electric in February of 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. In this context, they're passing over the State Route 45 tunnel with a fully-loaded iron ore train out of Enola that's heading to the steel mills of Pittsburgh. |

PRR 2246, EF-25, 1966 |
Description: |
Winter Day. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Altoona, Pennsylvania, during February of 1966. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #2246, #2429, and another unit whose number is not recorded. #2246 is an EF-25 built by EMD in 1963 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. #2429 is an AF-25 built by the American Locomotive Company in 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. They are about to pass under the 12th Street Bridge with a mixed-cargo freight train on their way up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin and points West. The two-story gray building on the left is the Railway Express Office; two of the PRR 12th Street Car Shop buildings are partially visible on the right. Visible in the distance is the 7th Street Bridge. |
