| 12th Street. Here is an original photo that I took at the Passenger Station in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in April of 1961. Shown here (R to L) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9806 and another unit whose road number is not recorded. Both were built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9806 is an EF-15A built in April of 1951. They're pulling a mixed-cargo freight train past the 1870's-era Passenger Trainshed on their way up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. Also visible in the background are portions the 12th Street Footbridge and the PRR's 12th Street Car Shops. ("Red Shift" slide converted to Black & White.) |
