PRR East Altoona Deadline, 1966
Waters. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in mid-February of 1966. Shown here in this West-facing view are four deadlined diesel-electric locomotives. Visible in the center is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9301, an FS-20 built by Fairbanks-Morse in January of 1949, rated at 2,000 horsepower, and retired in September of 1965 after just 15 years of revenue service. Also visible in the distance are the former Power Plant and one-half of the former 50-bay East Altoona Roundhouse. Photo taken from the cab of PRR engine #8943.
