Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #7784, an H-8SA (2-8-0) built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an H-8A in July of 1910, rebuilt in Juniata as an H-8SA in October of 1918, and retired in June of 1948 after 38 years of service. This photo comes from a B&W slide set entitled "Horseshoe Curve, Pennsylvania Railroad" that's produced and distributed by Blackhawk Films of Davenport, Iowa (22-18). |

Top Photo Caption: "Performing in the service for which she was built, G-5s No. 3064 cruises with a Pittsburgh-bound 'Pitcairn Local' on Sunday afternoon, April 4, 1948, near the East Liberty station." Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #3064, a G-5S (4-6-0) "Ten-Wheeler" built in Juniata during September of 1923 and retired in July of 1950. Bottom Photo Caption: "The daily Philadelphia-Oxford (Pa.) accommodation, which used the electrified Westchester Branch as far as Wawa, usually was in the charge of G-5s 1592. Outbound, the train showered commuters and was known as 'Smoky Joe.' Inbound, it was known as the 'Mushroom Train.'" Shown here is PRR engine #1592, a G-5S (4-6-0) "Ten-Wheeler" built in Juniata during August of 1923 and retired in December of 1949. |
