| This is one incredible hi-rail. In fact, its more akin to a locomotive. In Mansfield, this Brandt Power Unit was hooked up to six gondolas&full of ties and spikes. After I took this photo, it backed out of the siding and headed out on the JCS with its load of freight cars. The Brandt 5500 has a 550 h.p. caterpillar engine, can operate on khe tracks at speeds up to 40 mph, and has a tractive effort of 45,500 pounds. It has full size couplers and train compatible air brake systems. |
