The engineer and conductor of Washington DOT 1401 wave as their train glides across the Columbia River and into Vancouver. The train is running on time, and will depart just minutes later. The bridge that carries the tracks across the Columbia River is the Burlington Northern Bridge 9.6, built in 1908 by the Spokane Portland & Seattle Railway. The bridge has a 467 foot swing span, allowing boats to pass below. |
