Southern Pacific RSD12/DL702 locomotives 2951 and 2962 were on an eastbound transfer run operating over the Southern Railway at the Metairie Road grade crossing in Metairie, a suburb of New Orleans. Twenty-one of these units were built by Alco in 1961 for mainline work in California, using components from retired RSD5’s; but all were reassigned to less-demanding yard and transfer service at Houston and New Orleans in 1967, and they remained there until the last were retired in 1977.
