NCSL 4-8-2 #556 - Nashville, Chattanooga & St Louis
Nice example of a Baldwin 4-8-2 USRA light mountain type steam locomotive built in November of 1922. Note the fireman filling the tender with water from the stand pipe. Specs - serial #55719, class J-1b, 69" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 27x30" cylinders, engine weight of 340,000 lb, tractive effort of 53,883 lb. The locomotive was retired and scrapped in October of 1950 after serving for more than 25 years. No date, location or photographer was listed. However, Mike Woodruff (see comment below) believes this is Murfreesboro, TN and it does fit at least one photo I found. Thanks for your help on this one, Mike!
