| Left with a large number of 2-6-6-2 that had been replaced by stronger models in 1925-26, the Great Nothern shops cut, whittlled, and reshaped these massive locos into beefy 2-8-2 Mikados like this GN #3369. The new group of Mikados were reclassified as O-6 members. They were rebuilt again into class O-8 specs between 1944-46 and renumbered #3394. Retired in mid-1950's and all were scrapped by the early 1960's. The date of 1939 was given but from the photo, it appears to be missing its main rod so it may be several years before it was rebuilt to O-8 class specs.Unknown photographer. |
