Illinois Central 0-6-0 268 was photographed at the upriver (railroad south) end of STUYVESANT DOCKS YARD in New Orleans. The building in the left background was the old Napoleon Avenue Power Station, which closed in 1908; and was later used by New Orleans Public Service as a training school for streetcar motorman. The 268 had been built by Alco’s Schenectady Works in June 1914 and was sold to the Masonite Corp. in July 1953 for use at Laurel, Mississippi. It was subsequently placed on display at DAPHNE PARK in Laurel. (approximate day of photo) |
