Altoona Action. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide by an unidentified photographer that was taken at the Passenger Station in Altoona, Pennsylvania, perhaps during 1955. Shown here (R to L) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9838 (in Brunswick Green) and a "B" unit (in five-stripe Tuscan Red) whose road number is not recorded. Both were built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9838 is an EFP-15 constructed in April of n 1952. Note that the fresh train crew is waiting for a front-end helper unit to couple on, and then they will proceed up the Allegheny Mountains to Johnstown, Pittsburgh, and points West. Dominating the background are portions of the PRR's 12st Car Shops. The exact date is not recorded. |
