PRR Baldwin Switcher, c. 1950
Altoona Action. Here is an original photo depicting a Pennsylvania Railroad yard locomotive and its crew. Shown here is a BS-10A engine built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1950 and rated at 1,000 horsepower. Since this locomotive was built in 1950, and since the scenery looks a lot like that in Altoona, it could very well be that this photo was taken in or around Altoona on a winter's day sometime during or after the midpoint of the 20th Century. This photo was given to me by my friend, Betty Burket, whose husband ~ Mr. Guy Burket ~ worked as a brakeman in the Hollidaysburg Yards for many years. He passed suddenly on 24 May 1973.
