PRR 9796, EF-15A, #1 of 2, 1960
Road Power. Here is an original photo that I took of road locomotives in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, on 2 September 1960. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #9796 and #9772. Both are EF-15A's built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9796 was constructed in March of 1951 and retired in August of 1966, while #9772 was built in January of 1951 and went on to serve with the PC. Along with an unidentified N-5 cabin car, these locomotives are backing into the Hollidaysburg Yards. They would have been driven forward from East Altoona to the Wye Switches in Duncansville, proceeded up the New Portage Branch line for a hundred feet or so, and then run backwards from there into Hollidaysburg where they will pick-up an outbound freight train. The PRR's Freight Station is visible at the far left and Hollidaysburg's historic Chimney Rocks are discernable in the right distance.
