KJ Larson	General	Bradley, Thank you for your comments on the NRE pictures. I have been a railfan my entire life and a railroader for 20 and an NRE employee for 3. I also hated to see these locomotives lingering and rusting away. But NRE is much more than a scrap yard. All these locomotives are FOR SALE. The only time they are scrapped is if they have run their full career out and they are just too expensive to bring back. I have been inside and out of all of the locomotives pictured and under many of them. I see what the outside observer does not see, like blown turbochargers, shot traction motors, ceased up prime movers, AR10 generators melted and a varied amount of old and tired locomotives. No one wants to put the money needed into an old fuel guzzling SD50 or SD40T-2. NRE has saved a lot of older locomotives like the Kent locomotive and the Savage GP9 I was standing on top of. KJ Larson	General	...metre gauge locomotives for Kenya. You have to look at the logistics of saving an older locomotive and whether someone is willing to spend the money needed to bring it back to, not only, operating conditions, but environmental and safety also. Again, all of the locomotives at NRE are for sale and have been given all the opportunities to be restored and salvaged prior to meeting its fate with the cutting torch.
