CRI&P F7 677, La Salle Street Station, Chicago, Illinois, October 31, 1965, photo by Chuck Zeiler. Note the UP business car, possibly bringing visiting officials to Chicago for discussions with Rock Island officials. There was a merger plan around this photo date, but it never went through. Number 677 was built in March 1949 (c/n 6141) on EMD Order E975A. Number 751 was built as 1000 horsepower AB6 751 in June 1940 (c/n 1067) on EMC Order E306B, originally containing a baggage section where the second prime mover would have been. This proved to be insufficient to power the Colorado Springs section of the Rocky Mountain Rocket, and it was returned to EMD for installation of a second prime mover. During 1965, the steam generator was replaced with a HEP generator, and it was assigned to suburban service. It was sold for scrap November 1973. |
