Mike Johnson	General	very nice photo! I've always been fascinated by this hill. In the winter you can hike it, although it is washed out in spots and you need to pay attention. I have a blurb out of Trains Magazine, from 1974 or so, noting the abandonment of this line into town. How the track has survived all this time I have no idea.	10/24/2011 9:36:31 PM

adam wells	General	the lady at CMPA said the power company helped keep it intact for years up into the 90's, for occasional high and wide shipments, but after that I guess just the historical value held it in place. Its a neat place for sure, one of the sd7's special built for this hill only still exists, its now got a low short hood and wears the "red trail energy" logo and has a road number of 1751, the former PRR 8586-CR 6999.	11/6/2011 2:51:28 PM

steepest mainline grade in america, at 5.89% its steeper than saluda. a quick look at this hill on foot soon confirms its insane incline.
