So, I am at a funeral service on a rainy day in Sidney, NY. A humble and quick (35 minutes - my kind of funeral) service and the attendees pay respects to the family. The family thoughtfully had a small cold cut & salad buffet served in the Church Cafeteria.
I chow down, and noticed the rain stopped. I knew the Canadian Pacific Freight Subdivision was a block and a half away from the church. So, I decide to grab my camera and scanner (which were conveniently in my truck - good planning on my part) and take a short walk. I get to the crossing. Look up and down track: see nothing. Scanner has been quiet the whole walk. I'm thinking, yeah right Phil, just walk up to a crossing, unplanned and a train is just going to show up.
As that thought exits my head, I hear a horn blowing for a not too distant crossing! Imagine my pleasant surprise to see a spiffy, bright red Canadian Pacific conventional cab entering the Sidney Curve. I think, "Ok, a local." Better than nothing and definitely better than the typical widecab leaders I'm always seeing on the line.
I notice two boxcars and then two streamliner passenger cars marked with gold on maroon Canadian Pacific come into view! Well, I pressed that shutter button and held it down...
As the train passes, I noticed the last car had the picture pane window. I thought to myself, pretty cool, the Office Car Special. Then I heard the South Dispatcher call the "TEC Train" Aha! It is the Canadian Pacific Track Evaluation Car/Train. Well, it is on its way to the Buffalo Line.
I didn't stick around for either CP 253 or 931 which were waiting on the Afton siding and coming east. I figured, hell, I caught this, how much better can it get?
