USAX 4601 |
Description: |
After spending some time on the Seaview Railroad (Quonset Point) in Davisville, Rhode Island, these 2 locos were at the old New Haven Auburn Street Yard in Cranston, Rhode Island. They made it on a Providence and Worcester freight to Worcester, Massachusetts and eventually to Middletown, Connecticut to the Connecticut Central Railroad, where an Army Detachment used them. These locomotives were rebuilt IC GPs, rebuilt at the Paducah Shops in Kentucky to GP10 specs. The 4601 had been a GP9, and the 4602 was a GP18 and had a factory low nose as opposed to the Paducah chop. The last I know, these 2 locos were stored at the Pioneer Valley Railroad in Westfield, Massachusetts as part of the 226th Detachment based at the Westover Air Base. |

K638 Ethanol Extra |
Description: |
Some history in this photo - for the first time while on the Providence and Worcester, the ethanol extra was called by its CSX symbol - K638. Now officially on Amtrak's Northeast Corridor south of Boston Switch, its now called MFS-9 - MFS for Multi Function Switcher. MFS-9 with 3 hoppers of cement serving as spacers, 80 cars of ethanol, along with a box car spacer running on track 7 along the Corridor at Branch Avenue. This was the old New Haven Northup Avenue Yard. A long gone P&W customer on the right when it was a Sears Warehouse and the other track now unused to West River and the then new automated Post Office under New Haven, later Penn Central |
